Android v2.3 a.k.a Gingerbread with the NFC chip is the next big thing to android users?

At Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco, Eric Schmidt, Google’s chief executive showed the much talked about, Nexus One Successor, may be named as Nexus S to be manufactured by Samsung Co.

The Nexus S is said to be equipped Near Field Communication or NFC Chip, is a short-range high frequency wireless tech enabling to communicate with other device with the 10 cm of radius.

“This could replace your credit card,” Schmidt said. “The reason this NFC chip is so interesting is because the credit card industry thinks the loss rate is going to be much better, they’re just more secure.”

But to avail this tech, user should have android phone running Android v2.3+, which mean 1GHz+ processor based phone are required.

Google will partner with third party payment processors to make moblie payment happen.

So is this only the big thing in Gingerbread or surprises are stored for Holiday season ?
